FaltyDL is not your average 10-foot-tall surgeon, he also has an 8 chambered heart -- one for each day of the week and twice on Sunday. That is why he makes good music, that and because he eats four raw beetles each day for breakfast. Funk beetles. -DR. Tracheopterix
Q & A with FaltyDL

Q: Where does your artist name come from?

A: I think i was feeling guilty about something or other when i was really young and wanted my friends to start calling me Falty. And i cant spell so, Falty, not Faulty. The DL is self-explanatory.

Q: Tell us more about your musical roots!
A: Grew up listening to Captain Beefheart and Frank Zappa, something about the tape effects they were using in the mid 60's still sounds so fresh and tight today.

Q: How did you start producing music?
A: Producing started in my bedroom, fumbling in the dark trying to spend my time more constructively then looking at pictures of boobs and what not.

Q: Are you also a DJ?
A: I try to be. Its tough though, i think the line has been blurred a bit in the last 5 years, on what actually is a dj.

Q: Do you work together with other artists also? E.g. Remixes?
A: I did a remix for Frenetik, this sicko artist out of Atlanta and New York. I've designed some sounds for friends, and played live sets with Casperelectronics. Future plans in the works(hopefully) with a german producer sheitel. we'll see.

Q: Do you have any special musical aims?
A: Nothing special. I try and aim at something a bit beyond my technical grasp as much as possible. I fall short often, but i know more now then i did 7 weeks ago, and 7 weeks ago, and 7 weeks ago.

Q: What do you think of the contemporary popular music which is played by normal radio stations?
A: I listen to classic rock in the shower cause its the only station my $3 radio gets. Other then that i honestly couldn't tell you what's popular. I know for sure, however, that what i make is not popular haha! There are some producers in the mainstream that still push boundaries definitely. But you don't hear virtuosic electronic producers on the radio, the good mainstream producers i know of make sick beats for horrible lyrics. So its 50/50 then.
If I had the formula to cure cancer Id be in the mainstream flaunting it. Wouldn't you? These musicians have the formula for making popular hits, so they run with it. I don't know...

Q: What have you read recently (book, play, film, etc.) that moved or surprised you?
A: Just finish Neuromancer finally, that was wicked.

Q: What is your all-time favorite track? Why?
A: Tundra 4 -squarepusher Impossible not to like that song. My mom likes that song. Maybe its popular music? maybe not, i don't know... He has such command of pure sound on that track, that whole ep actually, Venus No.17, its frightening. Im gonna go listen to it right now.

Q: What's one thing you're a fan of that people might not expect?
A: Things that are soft.
